Spider-Man 3 smashes film record

Spider-Man

The film Spider-Man 3 has become the most successful new release in the history of cinema.

Figures say that people in America paid more than 74m to watch the film during the first two days of release.

This beats the previous best set last year by Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest.

Film experts are also saying the Spider-Man 3 is showing in more screens than any other film, playing in 4,252 American cinemas

The first Spider-Man film, released five years ago, is still third on the all-time new release chart.

The fourth top money earner in the first few days of a film being released is Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.
