Kids get set for Great School Run

Children running a race

Hundreds of thousands of children are in training to take part in a huge school running event.

The Tesco Great School Run is getting 7-11-year-olds to sign up to the 2km race, which will take place at schools around the country on 21 June 2007.

Organisers are hoping to smash last year's Guinness World Record for the largest simultaneous walk or run when over 242,000 children took part.

The aim of the race is to help you get into exercise.

Training programme

Pupils will begin training five weeks before the big event. This will include running lessons in PE, where you'll learn how to pace yourself.

And classroom actives will help you find out more about running and exercise and why it's good for you.

So far more than 300,000 children have signed up to the big race.

If you're interested in taking part, talk to your teacher and show them the web link on the right of this page.
