Girl releases baby bear song

Kitty poses at a photocall for the song Knut, The Little Polar Bear

A nine-year-old girl has released a song about a polar bear cub at the centre of a row.

Kitty's song is about Knut, who was raised by keepers at Berlin Zoo in Germany after his mum rejected him.

Some animal rights campaigners say it's unnatural and it would have been kinder to let him die.

It's Kitty's first song and she's hoping for success. She said: "Knut is such a sweet little baby, and that's what I like about him."

Knut was born in December. When his mum ignored him, zoo keepers decided to help him out by feeding, bathing and exercising him just like other babies.

His story has attracted loads of interest.

As well as Kitty's song, there is a single called Knut Is Cute and there are 12 songs on the internet about the bear.

Since the cub was first seen last week fans have snapped up more than 2,400 fluffy white Knut soft toys.

Sweet-maker Haribo is going to launch a raspberry-flavoured Cuddly Knut sweet in April and has promised Berlin Zoo a share in the money cooked up the tubs of sweets.
