Tara is Fame Academy winner

Tara Palmer-Tomkinson

Tara Palmer-Tomkinson beat actress Tricia Penrose to be crowned the winner of Comic Relief Does Fame Academy.

Tara and Tricia both gave cracking performances on Friday but it was Tara who won the final vote.

Former EastEnders star Shaun Williamson had been favourite to win for most of the series, but was overtaken by Tara before being evicted on Thursday.

Viewers votes helped raise more than 780,000 for Comic Relief projects in Africa and the UK.

The judges had loads of praise for Tara's performance.

Afterwards she thanked everyone for voting: "If I could personally ring each and every one of you who voted for us, I would, but I'd be broke!"

Thirteen celebs started off in the Academy two weeks ago, including Blue Peter presenter Zoe Salmon and CBBC's Angellica Bell.

Students were evicted one by one, with fellow students having the final say on who stayed and who was thrown out.
