Springfield hosts Simpsons movie

The Simpsons

Top television family The Simpsons are coming to a real-life Springfield.

Sixteen American places with the same name as the town where Bart's family live are in the running to host the first screening of The Simpsons movie.

People in the real Springfields can compete for the honour by making a short film about their home town.

The winning Springfield film - chosen by film bosses - will host the star-studded screening of the long-awaited movie in July.

The Simpsons creator Matt Groening says he chose to call his town Springfield because it is a common place name in the US.

The Simpsons is now in its 18th year and has been a television hit in many countries across the world.
