Louis and Kate to leave X Factor

Louis Walsh and Kate Thornton

X Factor judge Louis Walsh has texted Newsround about his decision to leave the hit TV talent show and even told us who he wants to take his place.

He said he wanted to do less TV and more "music stuff" and thinks Radio 1 DJ Chris Moyles should replace him.

He said: "I've got a busy year ahead but I loved doing X Factor. I hope Moyles gets the job, I recommend him!"

Presenter Kate Thornton is also off but Sharon Osbourne and Simon Cowell will return, joined by two new judges.

TV bosses have also decided to lower the age limit to 14 and split the 14 to 25-year-old group into boys and girls.

Although Louis won't be a judge on the show anymore, he'll still get to manage the acts behind the scenes.

Good luck

Kate said presenting the show had been "fantastic" but she was looking forward to working on something new.

"I wish the new host every success," she said. "It will be an experience they'll never forget."
