Enormous plane takes to the sky

The Airbus 380

The world's biggest passenger plane - the Airbus A380 - has taken to the sky for its first public flight.

About 200 journalists got the chance to have a good nose around the super jumbo on a two-hour flight from France.

The plane, which is taller than six double decker buses and longer than a footie pitch, was designed and built by experts from many European countries.

Inside, there's lots of room for people to relax and some of the planes could even have a gym and shops inside.

Just how big is it?
There should be lots of room inside the plane
The A380 is the length of eight London buses
70 cars could be parked on its wings
It is 15m wider, 4m taller and 2m longer than a 747
If every seat on board was economy class there would be room for 853 passengers. A 747 has room for 568.

The giant plane, which cost 170 million to make, is expected to fly passengers and holiday makers from London to Singapore later in the year.

And airlines will be able to choose how many seats they want and how much room they want to save for fun stuff like cinemas, bars and first class cabins.

Until now, the Boeing 747 was the biggest passenger plane, but the A380 will overtake it by having 50% more floor space.

But experts say the Airbus is much greener than other jumbos as it carries more people but uses less fuel so it causes less pollution per person.

I would have an arcade and a bowling alley!!!!

I would have the entire plane first class, with a cinema, loads of shops, a dance floor and a resturaunt so you don't have to have tray meals!

I think that having a big plane is a good idea for international travel as it carries far more passengers who have access to better facilities.

I think I would put a cinema and a TV in it so I could watch Newsround.

I bet it would be really expensive to fly on it but I wouldn't mind saving up for that!!

People have made such a big deal out of it (the Airbus A380) despite the fact that it is not really a good looking plane. Why make such a big deal about such a stubby plane?
