New PM gives kids own minister

Ed Balls visits a kids' centre

The way kids' issues are dealt with has been shaken up by the new Prime Minister, Gordon Brown.

Children, families and schools will all be looked after by a man called Ed Balls, who's been put in charge of a brand new department.

The Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) will oversee things like child poverty and kids' health.

Mr Balls visited a kids' centre on Friday with Mr Brown to say just how important they think education is.

"The Prime Minister has said that education and supporting children will be his top priority and I will do my best to deliver for children, families and young people across the country," said Mr Balls.
