I was a judge for a famous book awards

Press Packer Nancy

Press Packer Nancy won a Newsround competition to be part of the judging panel for the Costa Children's Book Award.

In her report she tells us all about the judging process as well as explaining how she managed to read and review nine books in just one month!

"I can hardly describe how I felt when I found out I'd won the competition. I was ecstatic!

I was really looking forward to meeting the judges and hearing what they thought about the books.

Reading and reviewing

Reading nine books in one month was quite a challenge!

I didn't make a timetable for my reading, I just read every night.

I tried to think about the plots and I took notes so that I could remember each book.

Judging

When I met up with the other judges we mainly talked about the different plots and our likes and dislikes.

My favourite book was The Diamond of Drury Lane by Julia Golding because it was a fast-paced thriller.

It didn't win, but it was short-listed. The winning book was Set in Stone by Linda Newbery which all the adult judges liked the most.

Brilliant experience

I loved being a judge and getting to make decisions.

I didn't mind that my favourite book didn't win because it was such a great experience!"

Nancy, 11, London
