Ramprakash takes TV dancing title

Mark and Karen take the trophy

Cricketer Mark Ramprakash has waltzed off with the Strictly Come Dancing trophy after bowling over the judges with his fancy footwork.

Mark and partner Karen Hardy tangoed their way to the prize ahead of runner-up, rugby star Matt Dawson, and his partner Lilia Kopylova.

Saturday's final marked the end of 12 weeks of tense competition between a troupe of celebrity dancers.

More than 12m people phoned in to vote for their fave on the night.

The series also raised more than 1.5m for the charity, Children In Need.

After receiving his prize, Mark said: "From the very first day I met Karen Hardy she has given me the experience of a lifetime.

"It has been an absolute privilege to be on the show. I want to compliment all the dancers here. Anyone could have won it."

But runner-up Matt thought Mark deserved to triumph.

"There was no question, there was one winner here," he said.

The judges were amazed by the progress and talent showed by both finalists.

Magic

One of them, Bruno Tonioli, said their dancing was "like watching two princes on a magic roundabout".

The final also featured special appearances by the celebrity dancers who were knocked out earlier in the series.
