Single review: Emma Bunton - Downtown

Emma Bunton
Emma Bunton supports the Children in Need charity

Release date

20 November

Style

This year's Children in Need song has been given to one-time Spice Girl Emma Bunton.

The song is more than 40 years old but Emma has given it a fresh outing for the 2006 charity appeal.

Lyrics

Emma sings that you should go out downtown and have some fun if you are feeling a little bit sad.

"The lights are much brighter there, you can forget all your troubles, forget all your cares, so go downtown, things'll be great when you're downtown."

Will you still be humming it next week?

Emma Bunton
Strictly Come Dancing star Emma

The song is upbeat and happy so will easily catch your ear.

It's not that different from the 1964 version by Petula Clark (she's 74 years old now!) and I'm sure this will be on TV and radio quite a lot.

Chart worthiness

Children In Need songs always do well in the charts .

Downtown will be a success and the song will join Emma's 18 other top 20 hits that she has had on her own and with the Spice Girls.

Your comments

Emma is a really good singer and this is a very good song. Downtown is a very cool pop song that gets everybody up dancing. this.

It's good and the video is really fab and interesting but the original Downtown is better.

This isn't really my kind of music but I liked this.
Natalie, 11, Mansfield

All I can say is go downtown and buy it when it's out!
Emily, 10, Derby

I think this song is really nice because it is not about modern life and reminds you about the good old days!
Christina, 12, Leicester

I heard Emma perform Downtown on Children In Need. I thought it was alright, but I really cannot remember the tune or the lyrics at all! It's a shame a more catchy song wasn't picked for the CIN single.

I love this song and had to put it on my MP3 player. Emma, your song is fab!
