Airship makes flying visit to UK

A fly-by of the London Eye

One of the biggest airships in the world is on a flying visit to London - and Newsround's Lizo was on board.

An airship is a craft held up by a type of balloon. It stays up because it's filled with a gas which is lighter than air, and doesn't need much fuel.

Lizo took a trip in the airship - called The Spirit Of Dubai - as it soared above the streets of London.

He said the view was the most spectacular part of his trip, saying: "It was a beautiful clear day."

Lizo, who flew over the London Eye and Parliament Square, added: "The airship is really big and impressive. When it takes off, it goes incredibly steeply. For the landing, it drifted in like a glider."

At 66m long and 22m high, it would take 200,000 footballs to fill the thing.

Great Wall of China

The airship is flying to Dubai, stopping off at top landmarks - including the Eiffel Tower in Paris and Rome's Colosseum - on its journey.

Its destination is a housing development on a man-made island in Dubai, which - like the Great Wall of China - will be visible from space.
