Fish 'to run out in 50 years'

Fish - soon off the menu?

Fish will be off the menu within 50 years unless we do something to protect life in the sea, according to a very big scientific study.

The report says that we are treating the sea so badly that there won't be enough fish to catch by 2050.

Scientists say plants and animals in the sea are closely tied together, so damaging one thing affects the others.

They reckon one way to beat the problem is to set up special areas where no fishing is allowed.

Numbers of the fish we like to eat, like cod, have been falling recently.

Fishing is not the only reason sea life is under threat, and the report says things like pollution also play a role.

The scientists behind the report say it's important we all act now so the problem doesn't get out of hand.
