Your thoughts on poverty

Children featured in The Wrong Trainers

One in four children in the UK are poor, which means they live on much less money than the average family.

This Newsround special, The Wrong Trainers, looks at what life is like for children who live in these terrible conditions.

I think poverty is cruel and people should not be treated that way. I think poverty should stop for once and for all. I certainly would not like to live in poverty.
Rachel, 9, Southport

I don't think it's fair that some children get everything and some children don't even have food.
Iona, 13, Glasgow

It made me cry to hear them, and I think we take for granted what they don't have.
Beth, 11, Oxfordshire

I think poverty is terrible. The UK is one of the richest in the world and it has money to give these kids a better life.
Torin, 10, Campbeltown

I think children should have someone to look after them all the time.
Louisa, 6, London

I live in a small village with nothing to do and I get bullied because we don't have money and we get some help.
Kim, 8, Drayton

I think 2020 is ages away just think about winter when it's cold. They will not have enough money for heating. I think the least the government can do is pay their heating bill.
Dylan, 10, Aberdeen

I was really upset when I heard about all the children going hungry. We should really try harder to stop it.
Holly, 10, Brighton

I feel really sorry when I am watching TV and sitting on a chair because I know there are people who do not have those things.
Jammy, 10, Ipswich

Poverty should be sorted out by the council. I don't like the feeling that some kids don't have the things I do.
Rhys, 11, Glasgow

Child poverty is wrong! We have to stop it and help those in need!
Paige, 12, Southampton

I think it's terrible how some kids have to go through this. The government needs to hurry up and sort something out.
Beth, 10, Birmingham

I wouldn't want to be one of them six kids, but I feel so sorry for them.
Imane, 9, Leeds

I think that all children deserve a happy life. it just seems like Tony Blair doesn't care. I think child poverty is horrible and Dillon's story was so sad.
Leila, 8, London

When I watched this, I was really upset. The British government needs to act now if they want to stop this by 2020.
Sarah, 12, Ireland

It's horrible how some kids live like. It makes me feel lucky.
Laura, 10, Leicester

I think child poverty is a big issue and the government should be doing more to help.
Saoirse, 12, Ireland

I don't think enough is being done to help children like Dillon, Samara, Danielle, Chris, Chantell and Keona. The PM should do more.
Bethany, 11, Shipley

I really enjoyed Wrong Trainers because I also have these sorts of problems myself and it made me realise that I'm not alone and that the government should really do more.
Eloise, 12, Yeovil

I think the government should be taking more notice of these problems and something should definitely be done about it. More charities should be set up!
Emily, 10, London

I feel really sorry for children who do not have proper homes I felt really upset.
Alima, 12, London

I didn't know that there was such a high percentage of poor people living in Britain. I thought that it was only in other countries.
Lauryn, 9, Hertfordshire

I think we should have a special place where all the unfortunate children with their families could live until they are back on their feet.
Philippa, 10, Black Notley

I think it's just wrong that child poverty is going on. I hate the thought of it and I would never like to be in that sort of situation.
Molly, 11, Bristol

Everyone should be treated the same way. Even when they don't have enough money. If I was in this condition I will be very unhappy.
Priya, 11, Harrow

Poverty is well bad in Africa but people always forget that there is poverty in England. I think we should stop poverty here then help other countries.
Sophie, 11, Basingstoke

I feel so sorry for those people living in poverty! I never knew it was this bad!
Lydia, 12, Sheffield

I think that poverty is wrong and the government needs to do a lot about it.
Tamika, 9, Derby

I think poverty is horrible and a cartoon like this will make people realise how bad it really is.
Katy, 11, Ipswich

I think that it is really sad that some children have to go through this. I would let them come live in my big house if I could and, I would build a big house for everyone to live together happily.
Grace, 10, Loughborough

When I watched the Wrong Trainers it made me sad, upset and scared. Please try and make new houses sooner than 2020, because lots of kids need help now.
Rachael, 9, Billesley

I used to live in poverty because my dad used to spend all the money on drugs but I now live in a foster home and I love it.
Alex, 10, Edinburgh

This is wrong. Children should have a good start in life.
Andrew, 10, Hamilton

I think poverty is really sad. Some people have everything and some have nothing. It makes me really angry and the government should sort it out to give kids the childhood they deserve!
Tilly, 12, London

I watched the videos of those children and they made me cry.
Sally, 11, Crieff

I think it's horrible that children don't get enough meals and their parents take drugs! We don't realise how lucky we are. We need to do something about it! NOW!
Louisa, 9, Melbourne

I think the councils should pay to get poor kids food and clean water to drink and pay for a nice house and help their mums and dads get a job.
Jessica, 10, Fair Oak

I think that it will end but not by the end of 2020. The government don't seem to take enough notice of these kind of problems.
Jenni, 13, Derby

If the Prime Minister opened his eyes instead of just saying these things, he'd probably see what terrible conditions these people are living in. Make him live a week in the life of a child living in Poverty!
Millie, 12, Powys

It shouldn't happen and Tony Blair should sort it out now!
Charlotte, 11, Manchester

I think poverty is crazy; all people are equal. Maybe we should communicate more with poor people so we know what it REALLY feels like.
Ellie, 10, Mirfield

When I eat I fell so sad because they have no food to eat.
Shade, 12, London

I think we should help poor children by raising some money.
Catherine, 12, St Helens

It's horrible and everyone should give money to try to stop it.
Victoria, 10, Great Shefford

I can't believe there are so many people suffering. It just makes you feel very lucky that you have a roof over your head.
Michelle, 13, London

Everyone has a right to live happy but some children are surrounded by drugs. Every child should have their own bed to sleep in!
Charlotte, 11, Winchester

Poverty is getting worse every year and I don't just mean in the UK. Thousands of children around the world are living in poverty and with no education.
Sarah, 11, London

I think the government should do more to help families with poor houses.
Mohammed, 13, London

I think that poverty is wrong because there are people in the world that are in need right now but Tony Blair doesn't seem to be doing something!
Bethany, 12, Ashford

Well, this may sound crazy but I have always wanted to help people in poverty but I don't know how to!
Harpreet, 11, Chigwell

Everyone has the right to live a happy and healthy life. WE should be doing more to help them, not to just help people in our country but all over the world!
Katie, 13, Caerfyrddyn

I can't believe that in this day and age people are living in poor conditions, I used to think that it was bad for me sleeping in the same bed as my mum. The government needs to start helping its own country!
Sophie, 8, London

Poverty is wrong, everyone has the right to live in a heated home. We all need clothing and proper food. I think it's unfair that children are forced to live on the streets.
Sarah, 12, Sauchie

I think it's really sad that many children are living in terrible conditions. I didn't realise this before. The government should do something to help and so should we. If we don't help, who will?
Katya, 11, Penwortham

This is so unfair for poor children! They should be treated better than this.
Mathew, 10, London

I didn't realise there were so many poor people in the UK.
Kirstin, 8, Nuneaton
