What inspired Johnny's Jack role?

Johnny Depp and a painting of Keith Richards

Johnny Depp's performances as Captain Jack Sparrow have made him mega famous, but have you ever wondered what inspired the way he walks and talks?

Well now that secret has been revealed, and apparently it's all down to a painting of a rock legend.

Johnny was at the home of Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards when he spotted the pic of him as a pirate.

At the time Johnny was reading the script to the first Pirates movies, and the painting helped him create Jack.

The artist Paul Karslake said: "My 6ft painting of Keith was hung in his New York apartment and was seen by his dinner guest, Johnny Depp.

"[He] had recently received a script for a pirate film and was in the midst of deciphering the look and personality of the character Jack Sparrow.

"Johnny claims the picture was his inspiration."
