Exclusive look at Dark Materials' Lyra

Boat in mist

A mysterious boat emerges from mist on the River Thames, as filming continues on the movie of Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials books.

Director's chair

The first film is called the Golden Compass - the title Northern Lights has in America.

Gyptian barge

The boat is a Gyptian barge, belonging to a group of people that help the heroine, Lyra, escape. The world has yet to see the actress playing Lyra, Dakota Blue Richards.

Gyptian barge

Is that a Gyptian out for the air? We reckon so!

Smoke boat

The mist was made in lots of smoke boats.

Lamp posts

Fake lamp posts were set up on the river bank in Greenwich.

Gyptians

These Gyptians look on as the sun sets.

Night shot

There were huge lights all over as night fell - ready for someone rather special!

This is probably a double for Dakota, used for far away shots where the main actress isn't really needed.

Here's Lyra! This is probably a double for Dakota, used for far away shots where the main actress isn't really needed.

Lyra?

Lyra has just escaped from Mrs Coulter with Ma Costa. We can't wait to see the film now!
