Single review: Girls Aloud - Something Kinda Oooh

Girls Aloud

Release date

16 October (online) 23 October (shops)

Girls Aloud have not allowed themselves to move away from their usual sound and Something Kinda Oooh is another slice of high energy power pop.

All the chemistry is here and the saying, 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it', comes to mind.

The opening lines set the scene. On your marks, get set, go - "I've got to heat it up, Gotta gotta heat it up, I've got 'til three o' clock, I've got to rock until you drop."

Not sure if Basil Brush was the inspiration for "Something kinda oooh, makes my heart go boom boom" but it is the catchiest line of them all.

Will you still be humming it next week?

Girls Aloud fans will love it. Pop fans will love it. So, unless you like your music with a little less sugar and more guitars, this will hang around for a while.

Their last two releases have been slow songs - so this is a welcome return to a tune which gets you moving.

Chart worthiness

An obvious top 10 hit - the girls are still at the top of their game.

This is Girls Aloud's 13th single, and although the number 13 is thought to be unlucky, we predict good things for Something Kinda Oooh.

NR rating:

Newsround rating: four out of five
