Packed lunches set for makeover

Children eating a packed lunch

School dinners have had a massive makeover and soon your packed lunches might be looking a bit different too!

The government is telling parents to pack more healthy food like whole grain bread, fruit, veg and yoghurt into your lunchbox.

It says that at the moment lots of lunches you bring in from home contain food with too much salt, sugar and fat.

Experts say that millions of kids could soon be dangerously overweight if they don't start eating healthier food.

Healthy lunches include:
Fruit
one portion of fruit
one portion of veg or salad
one portion of protein like meat, eggs or peanut butter
one portion of bread, pasta, rice, or potato

More than 4.6 million of you eat a packed lunch at school every day.

Leaflets containing advice on what to put into your lunchbox will soon be handed out to parents.

Some schools have already banned food they think you shouldn't eat for lunch like chocolate, crisps and fizzy drinks.
