Kids being hurt by cluster bombs

Cluster bomb exploding in Lebanon

Campaigners are calling for a ban on weapons called cluster bombs which have injured children in the Middle East.

Fighting between Israel and Hezbollah, an armed group from Lebanon, stopped three weeks ago but many children are still getting hurt by these bombs.

Cluster bombs release lots of smaller bombs when they blow up. Not all of these explode straight away, and it can be a long time before they are found.

That means kids could pick them up without knowing what they are.

Over the last few years, lots of countries and peace groups have called for cluster bombs to be banned. They say they should never be used near homes or schools, or anywhere where kids could find them by mistake.

There are lots of rules people have to follow when they are fighting a war, and some groups are worried Israel or Hezbollah broke some of these rules in recent fighting.

Fighting

The trouble broke out after Hezbollah captured two Israeli soldiers in July. The fighting lasted for about one month, and lots of innocent people died on both sides.

Now it's feared that things like cluster bombs could harm people for years to come.
