Plane crash victims remembered

People lay flowers for the troops who died

A minute's silence has been held for 14 members of the military killed in a plane crash in Afghanistan on Saturday.

People who worked with the men at the RAF Kinloss base went to a service to remember them. The flag at the airbase was also flown at half-mast.

The government has now named all of the people who died on the plane.

It's thought the crash was an accident and was not caused by fighting. Experts are looking into what might have caused the aircraft to come down.

The names of those who died

Flight Lt Steven Johnson
Flt Lt Leigh Anthony Mitchelmore
Flt Lt Gareth Rodney Nicholas
Flt Lt Allan James Squires

At the moment a technical fault is being blamed for the plane, which was a Nimrod MR 2, coming down.

Other Nimrod MR2 planes based in Scotland and Afghanistan are also being checked for faults.

A spokesperson for British Prime Minister Tony Blair said news of the crash made him feel sad.

So far 36 British troops have died in Afghanistan since 2001.

The aircraft came down about 12 miles from the city of Kandahar, in the south of the country.
