No bomb found in US airport alert

Tri-State Airport
Tests on suspect bottles of liquid which led to the evacuation of a US airport have shown no explosives.

Tri-State airport in Virginia was closed on Thursday after sniffer dogs reacted to the bottles suggesting they might contain explosives.

The containers were then removed by robots, but further tests found they contained harmless liquids.

The woman passenger carrying the bottles, who is a US citizen, was questioned but has now been released.

About 100 passengers were evacuated from the small airport during the security alert.

Afterwards Tri-State Airport director Larry Salyers said: "People are going to have to get used to it and maybe giving up a little bit more freedom than they are used to."

The alert is the second to hit US airports this week. Airport security around the world has been very high after fears of an attack using liquid explosives on planes.

British police are still questioning 23 people about a plot to blow up planes while flying from Britain to America.
