F1: Home victory for Schumacher

German Ferrari racer Michael Schumacher jumps up on the podium after winning the Formula 1 German Grand Prix

Michael Schumacher has won the German Grand Prix, taking him to within 11 points of the defending champion Fernando Alonso.

The seven-time champion gave his title hopes a huge boost as rival Renault driver Alonso only managed fifth.

Schumacher's Ferrari team-mate Felipe Massa came second, with pole position driver Kimi Raikkonen coming third.

Britain's Jenson Button had looked on course for third position but lost speed and settled for fourth position.

Schumacher has now had five wins this season while Alonso has won six races.

Afterwards Schumacher said: "We had a superb weekend. We are going to try to close the gap further as quickly as possible."
