McLaren's Kimi Raikkonen triumphed over Michael Schumacher to take pole position in Sunday's German Grand Prix.
The Fin beat the Ferrari driver by just over 0.2secs in the qualifying race, while defending champion Fernando Alonso could only manage seventh.
Ferarri's Felipe Massa was third with Britain's Jenson Button starting in fourth place for Honda.
Raikkonen, who has not won a race since last October in Japan, said: "It was nice to get pole."
Raikkonen added: "We had some difficulties but it's the best place to start and let's see what happens on Sunday. The tyres have been very good all weekend."
