Awaiting a good home

The RSPCA has reported high levels of cruelty to animals this summer, so Press Packer Connor spent a day with a dog rescue centre.
"I absolutely love pets and have five pets of my own at home! So I joined the Manchester and Cheshire Dogs Home to help out for the day.
When stray dogs are found people call the police. The police try and find their owners to reunite them, but sometimes that's not possible, so rescue centres are called , and people there go to collect them.
The ambulance and the dog wardens collect about a 125 dogs every week.
At the first police station we went to we had three dogs to collect.
We bought them back to the dogs home so they could be washed down, vaccinated, and reunited with their owners if they are tagged with a microchip.
Three hundred dogs live in the rescue centre and over the summer it gets pretty crowded because even more dogs than normal are found on the streets
The dogs were so cute, I don't know how anyone abandon them.
People tend to go on holidays over the summer and sometimes they can't afford to put them up in kennels. Sometimes they leave them and they end up wandering the streets, and the lucky ones end up in rescue centres.
I had a great day here working with the dogs and would have loved to take one home! It was a million times better than school!
What will help the problem is for everyone to get their dog microchipped and take good care of it at all times."
