Pirates sets new $300m record

Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp)
Pirates of the Caribbean 2 has smashed another record, becoming the fastest ever film to sell $300m (160m) worth of tickets in North America.

The film, starring Johnny Depp, managed this in just 16 days.

Dead Man's Chest has also taken more cash in its first three weeks than the first Pirates film did in its first six months of release.

It also set new records in the UK, selling more tickets in its first three days than any other film this year.

Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp)
The film sees Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) take on Davey Jones (Bill Nighy), with the help of Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley).

The first Pirates film, called The Curse of the Black Pearl, was also a massive hit when it came out in 2003.

It made millions of pounds at the box office and won loads of awards.
