Boy wears skirt in short ban row

Girls can wear a skirt or trousers
A boy is wearing a skirt to school to protest about not being allowed to wear shorts in the hot weather!

Billy White, 13, was fed up that his Sheffield school only lets boys wear long trousers.

He's borrowed his sister's skirt and plans to wear it all week in a bid to get shorts approved.

Billy said the skirt kept him cool and added: "The boys at school want me to keep wearing the skirt because they really want to wear shorts."

He's planning to take a petition in to his school, Silverdale, and hopes his protest will result in a rule change.

Silverdale head teacher Helen Storey said the school's uniform policy does not include shorts at the moment, but the school was willing to consult on any changes.

She added: "We realise it is very hot and we are taking a sensible attitude to dress. If he wants to wear a skirt he is welcome to."
