Guides: Kenyan drought

Last Updated: Thursday July 06 2006 10:36 GMT

What is the problem?

Over 4.5 million people have been affected by a severe shortage of water in the African country of Kenya.

Schools have had to close, crops and animals have died and wells have dried up.

Diseases have spread among the people who have been weakened by lack of water.

Now rain has started to fall again in some areas, but it could be too heavy.

That could wash away crops, and bring on new diseases.
