Lizo reviews the next Doctor Who

The Doctor and Chloe
Every week our biggest Doctor Who fan Lizo will be bringing you his verdict on the week's episode of Doctor Who before it's even hit your screens!

Here's what he thought of the 11th episode from the second series: Fear Her.

This is a story set in the near future - the year 2012 in fact. With London hosting the Olympic Games, Rose and the Doctor arrive in an ordinary street, with a little difficulty at first, to find that very 'un'-ordinary things are going on.

Suspect drawings

Children are disappearing, and no one knows why. But the Doctor suspects that a girl called Chloe Webb who lives on the same road, might be involved somehow. And why does she have such a huge number of drawings in her bedroom?

This kind of thing should be extremely menacing - an unknown monster threatening normal people. But somehow it fails to be really scary enough. Although there's a great performance from young Abisola Agbaje as Chloe Webb.

There are inevitable hints about what will happen later in the series. And now that the news that Billie Piper is leaving has been released, these will of course make much more sense and point to her exit in the last episode.

In the meantime, in this episode she and the Doctor are having a great time, investigating the strange goings on.

But apart from a couple of moments of tension, there's never a feeling of not knowing what will happen next. And the complicated explanations of what is going on just seem, well, overcomplicated.

This isn't a bad episode, young Abisola and the chemistry between the Doctor and Rose make sure that doesn't happen.

It's just a story that never manages to reach the high standard of what has gone before.

Two out of five
