Whaling ban could soon be lifted

The international ban on hunting whales for money could be lifted, as more and more countries are thought to be supporting the practice.

The International Whaling Commission are meeting on Friday, and it looks like more countries will be pro-whaling than anti-whaling.

Countries like Japan say there's no reason why whales shouldn't be hunted like other animals.

But countries like the UK say they are special and should never be hunted.

Four countries have just joined the IWC, and it's thought three of those will vote with Japan.

Some people have accused Japan of offering aid to developing countries so that they support whaling, but Japan denies this.

Conservation groups have started campaigning against whaling in the smaller countries which traditionally support Japan.
