Nelly beats World Cup competition

Nelly Furtado
A volley of World Cup songs failed to stop Nelly Furtado taking the top spot in the singles chart with Maneater.

Her track rose from number eight last week to knock Sandi Thom into second place with I Wish I Was a Punk Rocker.

The best-performing footie song was the official World Cup anthem - Embrace's World At Your Feet - at number three.

Tony Christie's (Is This The Way To) The World Cup climbed to eight and Three Lions by Baddiel, Skinner and the Lightning Seeds was new at 10.

It was all change in the album chart, with new entries making up the entire top five.

Sandi Thom's Smile - It Confuses People bagged the top spot, The Feeling's Twelve Stops and Home was at two, followed by Ronan Keating's Bring You Home.

Paul Simon's Surprise debuted at four and Riot City Blues by Primal Scream went in at five.
