Scientists improve robots' touch

Technology is being developed that will allow robots to have the same sense of touch as humans.

Today's robots are only as good as a six-year-old at doing tasks like tying shoelaces as their sense of touch is not good enough.

But a specially-made surface will improve robots' touch.

Once robots have proper touch, they could take on complicated jobs such as becoming surgeons or astronauts on one-way trips.

American scientists have tested robots with hands covered in the new material and the machines could pick out tiny details on a US coin.
