Hopes up for Rooney in World Cup

Wayne Rooney

It looks like Wayne Rooney is getting fit more quickly than expected, after photos showed him in training before flying out to the World Cup in Germany.

The striker, who broke a metatarsal bone in his foot, was snapped jumping in the air to score a goal.

Rooney, 20, also took part in England's training session at Buhlertal in Germany on Tuesday, but he's returning to Manchester for a scan on Wednesday.

That scan will decide if he's fit enough to play in the World Cup.

While Rooney seems to be dealing with things like running, the real test will be whether he and his foot can stand up to tackles.

If it's not fully healed, and breaks again, it could ruin the rest of his playing career.

Tottenham forward Jermain Defoe flew out to Germany with the England squad on Monday, and is likely to be Rooney's replacement if the scan shows he's not fit.
