Matt Baker is leaving Blue Peter

Matt Baker has announced that he is leaving Blue Peter after 7 years presenting the long-running CBBC show.

The popular presenter was nearly crying when he told viewers of his decision at the end of Monday's programme.

"It's been a long and difficult decision to make .... but I feel it's time to let someone else have a go at this fantastic job."

Meg will also be leaving, but they're not going anywhere just yet as they'll stay until the end of this series.

Matt joined Blue Peter in June 1999 and since then he has presented over 700 programmes and made over 300 films.

He's done some amazing things in his time on the show, including jousting, hang gliding, and reporting from over 20 countries all over the world.

He's already got a few projects lined up, including a new CBBC series called Evacuation where children experience life during the war in the 1940s.

Matt said: "It was a really tough decision because I love Blue Peter so much. There is no other job quite like it."
