World Cup prediction: Brazil will win, Poland could reach the semi-finals

Poland 2-1 Costa Rica: Tuesday, 20 June

After an unimpressive game, Poland beat Costa Rica 2 -1 in the last match of the group phase of the 2006 World Cup.

Both goals by Poland were scored by Bartosz Bosacki.

The Polish and Costa Rican teams have both had chances already but have let them fall away during this World Cup.

Poland are third in their group and so, in effect this was sadly the last match which I was able to provide warm support to the team.

Poland 0-1 Germany: Wednesday, 14 June

In the match against Germany the Polish team unfortunately lost by one goal.

Although in the first half the Poles played vigorously, the situation dramatically changed later when the player Jaroslaw Sobolweski got a yellow card.

Then the Germans scored a goal in the last 10 minutes of the match. But during this time we could admire the heroic performance of Artura Boruca.

I think the best players throughout the match were Artur Boruc, Ebi Smolarek and Eneusz Jelen.

Poland 0-2 Ecuador: Friday, 9 June

It was a fateful start for Poland in the 18th World Cup.

In our first match in Germany, the 'white-and-reds' lost to Ecuador 0-2.

The best player on the field was Ebi Smolarek - son of a well-known Polish footballer. Sadly, he had no luck in scoring a goal.

In my opinion the Polish team was better. Unfortunately, the two goals scored by Carlos Tenorio and Agustin Delgado decided the match against us.

I hope the Polish team will be luckier in future matches.

Tournament preview

What's the atmosphere like in Poland?

The atmosphere in Poland is very tense. Pawel Janas, our coach, has selected a team without several good players like Jerzy Dudek and Tomasz Frankowski. Polish fans are worried by the fact that their team for the World Cup includes several young players, with little experience. The Polish team are now training as a group in Switzerland.

Poland is in a group with Ecuador, Costa Rica and Germany. We should beat Ecuador and Costa Rica but I think it will be hard to beat Germany. In my opinion we have a good chance of progressing beyond the group stages, and could even manage to reach the semi-finals!
