How did your pet cope with moving house?

pets
A house in Devon is up for sale - with a resident tortoise included in the price!

The current owners of the house want to move but feel Eliza should be left with the house as she's been there for so long.

We want to know how your pets have coped with moving house...

Was it difficult transporting them by car?

Did they behave strangely at your new house, and if so for how long?

Perhaps you had a cat that went missing - or a dog that tried to return to your old house...

Unfortunately this topic is now closed but there are Comments pages on other subjects on the main Chat index.

When we moved, my cat was perfectly fine with the move. On the other hand, our dog was totally freaking out! She was like that for a while, but now she is good with our new house, and so am I.

My cats were a bit scared but now they're fine they go out every day to play in the garden.

When we moved house our cat went missing but when we phoned the RSPCA they'd had a call from the person who moved into our old house who said that she had wondered back there!
Melissa, 12, Kilmarnock

We had to give our cat away because he is making my mum ill. Now he is living on another farm and I am sure he will be happy there although I keep hoping he will come back.

My pet ran away shortly after we moved after having a fight with a fox.

My pet Spencer was really excited and ran around the garden as fast as he could go then jumped in the field full of sheep! I'm glad he came back.

When I moved house we moved 300 miles! We needed to take our fish, we left in winter and they all nearly froze in their water!!

Our dog Max loves travelling in cars so he didn't mind moving house. He stayed with friends who took good care of him while all our stuff was put into the house and when we moved him he ran around the house and soon got used to it!
Jonathon, 9, Stockport

When we moved house I thought my cat wouldn't like the new house but it did.
Maya, 15, Birmingham

My dad knew when my dog Molly had settled in as she barks at someone and he says that means Molly has settled in.
Amo, 11, Banbury

When I moved house my dog kept pooing everywhere and when we went to the vet about it he said he was doing it so much because he was getting used to the new environment!
Hannah, 11, London

I haven't ever moved house but when we brought home our new kitten, she settled in no problem.
Amelia, 12, Salisbury

We moved to a new country and after loads of paperwork we moved my pet by car. He was a bit confused at first and kept trying to work out where he was!
Lucy, 13, UAE

I had a cat and then we moved he got lost in the new area. Now I still don't know were he is after seven months and I really missed him.
Gintare, 12, Armagh

Three years ago, we moved to Finland and we took our cat with us! He had to go on an airplane but he didn't make too much fuss. He hates the snow though, and it snows a lot here. That's the only thing he doesn't like.
Lily, 11, Lappeenranta, Finland

Well I am in the process of moving house at the moment, and I have a rabbit so I'm not quite sure how it will go.
Louise, 13, Maidstone

When my sister moved house her cat ran away and was seen again near her old house. Sadly my sister's cat isn't tame anymore and she has been unable to re-home it in her new area.
Becky, 11, Oswestry

My dog and cat were fine moving house but got puzzled by the new house!!!
Lisa, 12, Fairford

My cat got right at home very easily, we left him in his cage for about three hours to get used to the surroundings then let him out.
Hannah, 13, Westcliffe

We have a 14-year-old dog called May and because she had lived in the same house for 14 years she left behind all her memories. It was very sad but she had a big new exciting garden to run about in!
Leah, 14, Stoke

I have two guinea-pigs and we've moved twice, holding them all the way in the car. One of them wouldn't come out into the front of the cage, but they both settled in soon. They always fidget in the car a bit but overall have really adapted well.
Eve, 11, Normanton

When I moved in August 2003, one of my cats, Jitty, ran away for a couple of days, but kept coming in through my window at night!
Claire, 12, Norfolk

My dog tamba was ok but he was only 5 when we moved to London, however if you have a dog that old it might not be a good idea because your pet could die from stress.
Natasha, 13, Barnes

When we moved to New Zealand we had to leave our cats at home but once we've moved in properly the cats are going to join us!!
Beca, 12, Wellington

My mum put butter on our cat's paws! Her theory is that when a cat starts cleaning themselves it means they've settled in their new home... strange but true!
Leigh, 12, Swindon
