Scientists show off car of future

The 'Clever' car
It might look funny, but this car might just be the environmentally-friendly future of motoring.

It's called the Clever car. That stands for Compact Low Emission Vehicle for Urban Transport.

It uses natural gas as fuel, so it's less polluting than regular cars. At only 1m wide, it's small enough to cut down on traffic queues too.

The design is the result of a three year, 1.5m project by researchers in nine European countries.

It was put through its paces at the University Of Bath.

But the finished design will look quite different - with a roof and plastic panels to protect the driver and passenger.

One of the researchers said: "It takes a little while to get used to but once you do, it feels bizarre to get back into a normal car."
