JK skinny rant - what do you think?

JK Rowling
JK Rowling has written a rant on her website about the "skinny obsessed world".

She says she's worried her daughters will grow up obsessed with being thin.

What do you think about JK's rant? Do you agree with her thoughts?

Do you think she's worrying too much about her daughters?

Maybe you think she has no right to criticise models and what about people who are naturally thin?

E-mail and let us know your thoughts.

I think JK Rowling is being a bit hypocritical in her "rant". In Harry Potter, Harry ends up fancying the girl with the perfect figure who is beautiful, not a "Hermione". If she feels so strongly about the issue, she should incorporate it into her books.
Dobby, 14, Bonnyrigg

I think being skinny isn't that important. Lots of people aren't very thin and many of them are celebs!
Sky, 11, Cambridge

I think that girls shouldn't be obsessive about their weight as there is always something better to be doing than worrying!
Sophie, 11, Arundel

I think it's a bad example what celebs are setting because teens are trying to get skinny when their still growing, every person should be themselves and copy celebs. I think JK Rowling and Pink are right.
Phoebe, 13, Reading

I think that J.K Rowling has every right to worry about her children becoming obsessed with being skinny. It's only fair for a mother to worry about her children. She is also right that there are to many skinny obsessed celebs in the world and I think are real role models are the ones who are happy with how they look and don't care what people say!
Amy, 13, London

I think that she should stop worrying. I know that people want the best for their children but wait they might never have this problem. Anyway some people are naturally skinny.
Eloise, 13, Salisbury

I don't think, she has a right to say that. It's none of her business, and if she doesn't want her kids to be like that then teach them the right ways. It's up to the models if they want to be skinny or not. Her saying it is not going to make any difference.
Nosheen, 12, Accrington

I totally agree with JK, children and teenagers are to pressurised by skinny celebs, I'm proud to have a bit of meat on me and others should be too!
Emma, 14, Wirral

I agree and I don't think she's criticising  naturally skinny just people who try to become thin  by becoming bulimic and anorexic.
Anna, 13, Southampton

I completely agree, its wrong to worry about how thin you are. If I was a mum I wouldn't want my kids to starve themselves just to 'look good'.
Molly, 11, Bristol

I think JK Rowling is wrong as she should let them make their own minds up! I love being skinny!
Jobhan, 14, Birmingham

I think it's stupid that people are obsessed with their looks and how thin they are. There's are more to life than looks.
Heledd, 13, Rhiwlas

Celebs like Nicole Ritchie and Lindsay Lohan are setting a bad example by showing impressionable girls that being stick thin is cool, when really they just look ill! No wonder there's such a high rate of eating disorders when you just have to open a magazine and you'll see stick-thin celebs. I think people like Pink and JK are the real models.
Holly, 15, Rayleigh

I do think it's right what JK is saying, but we have to remember that the celebs are put under pressure by the press and some are naturally thin and we have to respect that.
Aimee, 12, Wales

I think JK is right not wanting her daughters to grow up and be stupid fashion models with no education.
Lola-Rose, 14, Leeds

I agree! People are obsessed with what they look like and I think people should be proud of who they are and just live their lives.
Emily, 13, Haywards Heath

I'm naturally skinny and people always say to me "oh you're a bit thin" and it's really annoying.
KT, 14, Scotland

I think that JK Rowling is right. Most of my friends think they are fat but are already skinny and this is because they read magazines and they tell them that they are fat when they are not.
Elisabeth, 15, Kingussie

I think it is good that JK has spoken out like this. Sure, it might seem a bit over-protective of her daughters but it is the truth and it is good for girls to have a role model that isn't telling them to be a stick insect.
Alex, 13, Burbage

JK Rowling is completely right. I understand bullying makes people's lives hell sometimes but hopefully the words of a famous and adored star will make people change their minds. I sincerely hope more popular stars come forward with similar information.
Becky, 11, Oswestry

Girls need to stop comparing themselves to other people. Heavy or thin, the most important thing is to be healthy. I've know far too many girls that have sacrificed their health to look "good". Beauty comes in all shapes and sizes and young people need to realize that a person is so much more than how they look.
Caitilin, 15, USA

I think although it is not a good thing being overweight, it isn't a good thing being skinny either.
Catherine, 13, Reading

This makes me even happier to look up to JK Rowling because it shows she is a true, caring person.
Meghan, 14, USA

Teenage girls often see models and think "yeah, that's who I want to be" and they do this by starving themselves. I think Jo's right to worry about her daughter but maybe not at this stage as she's too young right now anyway. People shouldn't try and be skinny, just eat healthy.
Amy, 13, London

I think that people are wrong to criticise models, their appearance is their own choice, they should have the freedom to look how they want.
Chloe, 12, Preston

JK is right lots of children are obsessed about their looks and being skinny is one of them. She should just make sure her daughters are eating normally and ask them what they think.
Lola, 11, Fife

I'm very skinny and I used to be called names and teased because of it, back then I'd have done anything to be fatter. I think JK Rowling is right to be worried but things change, soon it might be fashionable to be large.
Amber, 13, Shrewsbury

JK is right, celebrities can be a bad influence on kids and we need to grow up to be ourselves not just like celebs.
Erica, 12, Manchester

I think that she is right saying that as so many girls are worried about what they look like in front of peers. Many girls I know think that they are fat when they are quite skinny and want to go on a diet.
Issi, 13, Beaconsfield

I think JK is absolutely right. How is having an unnaturally skinny body going to help in life?
Jessica, 12, London

I'm very skinny but I've never been on a diet! Looks like she's the only one obsessed!
Angelina, 15, London

I am a bit fat, but not really fat. But I am fat enough to know that I will never be a model unless I go on a diet. But I'm okay with that. I mean I think I look good with my extra kilos. I don't want to be a skinny girl who look like you can break her legs as soon as you touch her. I think you look better with a bit fat on your body. All that I know is that I wouldn't want to lose my fat for anything in the world.
Ylva, 13, Sweden

Sure JK is right to say this, but it's not like she's the first and her opinions are any different. these things have been said for years but nothing is going to happen, models are still going to be stick thin, it just depends on the way you look at them and that young girls don't feel the need to compare themselves.
Anna, 14, Cardiff

I'm really skinny and I hate it, I don't see why lots of people think skinny people look nice because I'm actually trying to put on some weight!
Bex, 15, Nottingham

I think JKR is absolutely right, and having read this yesterday when she posted it on her site, I hope that the rest of her fans agree with her. She's the perfect role model, unlike some very skinny celebrities I could mention.
Lauren, 14, Bangor

I think it's great! There is an increasing number of anorexics and magazines seem to encourage it. I don't think she's criticising people who are naturally thin, just expressing that this shouldn't be considered normal.
Lauren, 13, Carnforth

I think JK Rowling is right because girls especially teen girls look at models and pop stars as being idols and want to be like them and they send out the wrong message I think models have the right to be in that career but why can't there be more natural looking people in pictures
Tamsyn, 13, Newquay

She's in such a good position to say things like that and I completely agree with every word she says. Good for her!
Sarah, 15, Stourbridge

I personally don't think it was JK's place to say what she has. Yes we live in a world where stick-thin is 'in' but we have to learn from our own mistakes. Fat people don't get criticised so why should thin people? We should be taught to appreciate what we've got not comment on what we should be in an ideal world.
Rachel, 14, Epsom

I agree with her, some people are too obsessed with their figure.
Nosheen, 12, Accrington

I think more like high profile stars who think this way should write such messages as if the website owners are getting grief from celebrities they may shut the websites down. GO JK!
Terri, 13, Winsford

I think JK is right in saying that however I don't think that just hearing her views will make people change. Because being thin can be very important to a lot of people.
Kate, 11, Devon

I understand where she is coming from as I see lots of thin people ruining their lives by being anorexic. But there are some celebs that are not as thin as they used to be e.g. Rachel Stevens. Maybe she can influence other children to stop this ridiculous way of living!
Milly, 10, Leeds

I think people shouldn't want to be really skinny because my friend is and everyone is really worried about her. People should be happy the way they are.
Emma, 13, Northern Ireland

Yes, she's absolutely right. Models etc are a really bad example, particularly to teenagers.
Amelia, 12, Salisbury

I think that it's better being the right weight for your height than being stick-thin!
Hilary, 15, Texas

I think JK is right to criticise our skinny-obsessed world. Too many youths these days want to be thin. I think you should be happy with who you are and if people judge you on how thin/fat you are, then they are extremely shallow people.
Anne, 14, Orpington

I think as long as you eat healthily and exercise regularly, you won't need to worry. Wise words J.K
Florence, 12, Twickenham

I think she is right, but people do have a right to have a career in the modelling world, just like she has a career in writing books.
Lesah, 15, Livingstone

I think JK was absolutely right. I also agree about her wanting her daughters to be Hermiones and not Pansy Parkinsons.
Javairya, 11, Liversedge

Someone famous and loved by teenagers needed to say it otherwise no one would have listened. I admit that I worry about my weight too much but I don't go to the excess that some people do. I think its great that she is worried about her daughters and that she praises Pink's song as Stupid Girls is completely right.
Chrissy, 12, Reading

I think JK Rowling has every right to express her concerns. Everyone is aware that the population of young females are becoming drastically underweight and that something needs to be done about it. A lot of adolescents and children are fond of the author, so perhaps she aired her views in hope that her fans would listen and therefore act sensibly and not become obsessed about their figures.
Amy, 15, Wales

I don't have a problem about people being "skinny" if they eat enough and it is not damaging them or putting them in danger. However, obesity is also a problem and we don't want to much of that either!
Sarah, 13, Newbury

I think JK is right because every teenagers wants to be thin as they are influenced by other famous people, especially in the media.
Shalini, 13, London

I agree with JK Rowling, all of the teenagers in this generation are desperate to be thin. I think everyone should just be happy how they are as long as they eat healthily.
Zahra, 14, London

I think she is absolutely right!
Natasha, 13, Australia

Someone needed to say it, and JK made it clear who our role models should be.
Isabelle, 13, London

I think a lot of people are obsessed with being thin, but not everyone.
Hayley, 12, Lincoln
