What are the rules?

Collingwood's Ben Kinnear launches an attack
Players can kick, slap, punch or carry the ball, but never throw it.

If someone catches a ball that has been kicked more than 15 metres, a situation called a 'mark', they get a free kick.

If the ball is being carried, it has to touch the ground every 15 metres. If a player is tackled while carrying the ball, they have to let go of it.

Scoring is quite complicated. If an attacker kicks the ball between the two centre posts, they get six points.

If the ball goes over the line between a centre post and one of the smaller 'behind' posts, or if another player touches it before it goes between the two centre posts, that's one point.

Although mullet hairstyles are quite popular, they're not part of the rules.
