Athletics includes running, throwing and jumping events.
Press Packer Sian competes in running and the long jump and in her report she gives us some tips about these sports.
"I began athletics at primary school and loved it so much that I joined my local athletics club.
The great thing about athletics is that you don't need much kit to get started - just a tracksuit and some running shoes.
Head start
My coach helps me to improve my technique because every second counts.
My personal best in the 75m is 10.3 seconds and in the 150m, 21.5 seconds.
But to get a head start in the races I have to practice my starts as well as my running.
Take off
Being fast helps me in the long jump too.

The faster you go, the further you're likely to jump.
When you take off from the white board, you put your lift off leg down and your other leg up and out.
Then bring your other leg through, always keeping your body upright.
This way you will be propelled forward in your jump.
Medal winner
I won a trophy for being Under-13 Girls Kent long jump champion.
And I also won medals in the UK Young Athletes Final in Birmingham for long jump, 150m and 4 x 100m relay."
