My hot tips for keeping cool!

Harriet feels the heat
Press Packer Harriet is fed up of feeling the heat this summer.

To help others stay chilled she tells us her top tips for keeping cool when the weather hots up.

"Along with many others I often find the summer heat unbearable. I sometimes have trouble sleeping or playing sports in the summer sun.

But if you keep cool you can enjoy the hot weather while it lasts!

Tip 1: Wear a hat - it keeps the burning sun off your head and protects your head too! If you find your hat makes your head hot then try pouring water in it before wearing it!

Tip 2: Keep hydrated with water - especially when doing sports. This not only cools you down but makes sure that your body functions correctly.

Tip 3: Wear light coloured clothes, they reflect the light. Avoid wearing darker clothes as they absorb the heat.

Tip 4: Have lots of cool, refreshing showers - they keep you clean AND cool you down too!

Tip 5: Wear baggy clothes - tight clothes just trap in the heat.

Tip 6: Be creative - you can buy a mini electric fan quite cheaply or make and design your very own fan!

Tip 7: Use household objects - you could turn a bucket into a cooling foot bath or a plant spray into an icy face and body spray!

Tip 8: Keep the curtains drawn in your room to stop the heat coming in.

Tip 9: Wear sandals - they keep your feet cool!

Tip 10: Eat cooling foods - cucumber is incredibly refreshing on a hot day, and so is melon, mango, banana and, of course, ice cream!

Use these tips and you can keep cool even if the weather doesn't!"
