The Olney Pancake Race takes place every year to mark Shrove Tuesday in the town of Olney, England. Residents have staged the race since 1445
Here a pupil from an Olney school takes part in the race, where contestants run as fast as they can to the church, while carrying a pancake in their frying pan
An American magazine called Time wrote a story on the race in 1950, and ever since then the US town of Liberal in Kansas, has challenged the town to a friendly trans-Atlantic competition
So for the last few decades both towns have held the race at 11.55am local time- the US race is actually held six hours later when it's 11.55am their time. Whichever town has the fastest winner is declared the overall champion
This year Andrea Rawlings won the British leg of the race for the third time!
