Passengers survive plane horror

Smoke pours from the crashed plane in Canada. All passengers survived
Hundreds of people have had a lucky escape after their plane crash-landed and burst into flames - and everyone on board survived.

The Air France plane skidded off the runway before catching fire on Tuesday night. All 309 people survived, and just 43 have minor injuries.

The accident happened on Flight 358 from Paris at Canada's Pearson Airport.

The Canadian transport minister Jean Lapierre said the fact everyone survived was a "miracle."

The accident happened during bad weather. The plane burned on the runway for more than two hours after it crashed.

One passenger said: "I was just running like crazy. There was quite a bit of fire on the ground."

Another witness said she thought the plane had been struck by lightning.

The crash happened near Highway 401, one of the busiest motorways in Canada.

Investigation

A spokesman for the Greater Toronto Airport Authority said all the passengers had been hurried off the plane before it burst into flames.

The Airbus 340 has a good safety record and no crashes have been reported before Tuesday, an aircraft expert said.

An investigation is taking place to find out why the plane crashed.
