Dog survives two weeks down hole

Buffy the terrier
A family from the New Forest is celebrating after their terrier survived almost two weeks stuck down a hole and then found her way home!

Buffy was being walked by her owner in woodland when she and a doggy friend ran off in the direction of fox dens.

A search team of helpful neighbours hunted for the little dog until it went dark but only Buffy's friend turned up.

Her owners gave up hope of finding her alive so were astonished to find her on their doorstep two weeks later!!

Buffy was fond of playing around the foxes dens in the New Forest but had always come straight back in the past.

Buffy's owners said they remained hopeful for a couple of days that she might turn up but then lost hope as it was not in her character to run away.

Owner Maddy Andrews who was walking her when she went missing said: "I honestly thought she was dead. When I saw her on our doorstep I thought I'd seen a ghost!

"She was wet, bedraggled and dirty and had lost so much weight that I can only imagine she was stuck in the hole until she got skinny enough to wriggle free.

"The first thing she did after running into the house was eat all the cats' food then ask for some more!"
