Filming starts for new Doctor Who

The 10th Dr Who, played by David Tennant.
The new Doctor Who stepped into his role when filming started on Monday for the second series and the Christmas special.

David Tennant has taken over from Christopher Eccleston as the 10th Time Lord and has a striking new outfit to complete his transformation.

The new series will feature Queen Victoria, an evil race of Cat Women and the terrifying Cybermen!

The hour-long Christmas special sees Earth in danger from the alien Sycorax.

Billie Piper remains the Doctor's companion, Rose Tyler, travelling through time and space battling aliens.

David Tennant said he liked his new outfit: "I think we've come up with something distinctive that's both timeless and modern, with a bit of geek chic and of course, a dash of Time Lord!

"Most importantly Billie tells me she likes it - after all she's the one who has to see me in it for the next nine months!"

Sarah Jane (Elisabeth Sladen) battles with the Monster of Peladon in a 1974 Dr Who programme.
Billie, who will star in all 13 episodes in the next series, said she was thrilled to be playing Rose again.

"We plan to make series two even bigger and better and challenge the viewers' imaginations like never before. Wait until you get a load of the new Doctor!"

The new series also features a name from the past. Elisabeth Sladen was Doctor Who's assistant years ago to Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker. She will be back on the TV in the spring series.
