Man says sorry for bomber protest

A man who went to a protest against cartoons that offended Muslims has said he is sorry for dressing up as a suicide bomber.

Omar Khayam, 22, from Bedford, said he "wholeheartedly" apologised to the families of those who died in the London bombings on 7 July 2005.

Mr Khayam was part of a demonstration outside the Danish embassy on Saturday.

Police are now looking at photos of the protest to decide if words written on placards were breaking the law.

Some of the signs being carried by protestors called for people who offend Islam to be harmed.

No one was arrested during the demonstrations outside the Danish embassy on Friday and Saturday, but the government has said it will support the police if they decide to bring charges against anyone.

Offended

Many Muslims around the world were offended by cartoons published in a Danish newspaper last year and republished in Europe last week.

One of the drawings shows the Prophet Muhammad wearing a headdress shaped like a bomb. Images of the Prophet - or Allah - are banned under Islamic tradition.
