Recipe change cuts fat in crisps

One of the UK's biggest crisp making companies has changed its recipe to make the snack healthier.

Walkers has changed the type of oil - at a cost of £6m - it uses in its crisps and says it has cut the saturated fats in them by 70%.

Studies have linked people who have lots of saturated fats in their diet with a higher risk of heart disease.

Although the crisps will be low in saturated fats each standard bag still contains 0.5g of salt.

The oil used to make the crisps is made from sunflower seeds, which according to Walkers means there is less than 1g of saturated fats in each packet.

Sales of snacks like crisps and chocolate have dropped in recent years as more people are buying healthier snacks like fruit, nuts and cereal bars.
