Winter warning to keep dogs warm

Dog in coat
Dog experts are warning owners to make sure their pooches are wrapped up warm in coats and blankets this winter.

Battersea Dogs home says most pet dogs are used to sleeping in heated homes, so may need to wear a small coat or fleece when taken outside for walks.

They say owners should get advice from vets on suitable coats for their pets.

The charity looks after around 400 dogs at a time and wants the public to help out by donating warm blankets to keep the animals nice and snug this winter.

Battersea Dogs home gets through about 1,000 blankets a day.

They want the public to send in thick woven blankets to help them out.

Weather forecasters have predicted the coldest winter in 10 years so people and pets will need particularly warm clothing.
