School beat Nasa to win web award

Woodland Grange's website

A primary school's website has beaten off stiff competition from US space agency Nasa to win a top web award.

Woodland Grange Primary school won over judges with their website packed with homework tips, pupils' weblogs and field trip tales.

Pupils at the school were told of their big win during morning assembly.

Deputy head teacher Richard Smyton said: "I don't think that at any point we expected to win. The website has grown and evolved over the years."

The website, which won the educational category of the Yahoo Search Finds of the Year awards, is run by pupils and staff at the Leicestershire school.

Weird and clever websites

The awards celebrate the most unusual, clever or bizarre websites on the internet.

Other winners include a website dedicated to clouds which was named best weird and wonderful site.

And best celebrity website was won by a man who is trying to meet 100 celebs, after a friend challenged him to see if he could do it.

The Woodland Grange Primary website could now win overall best site when it goes through to another stage where the public vote for their favourite.

The winner will be announced in February.
