Gorilla wins 'Big Brother' crown

Big Brother fans in the Czech Republic have chosen Richard the gorilla as the winner of a special show there.

Richard was one of four gorillas taking part in a Big Brother style TV show at Prague Zoo.

As well as highlights on television, the 16 cameras streamed what the gorillas were getting up to over the internet 24 hours a day.

Richard won more than 28% of the votes, and was rewarded with 12 melons as his prize.

As well as the adult gorillas fans could also keep an eye on baby Moja, although organisers decided he was too young to be included in the vote.

The show was a big hit with the viewers, with children and their parents especially keen to tune in.

Zoo director Petr Fejk explained it wasn't all about entertainment: "the aim was also to educate people about gorillas and raise money for wild gorillas in Africa."

Some of the money raised by the show will be used to help gorilla projects in the wild.
