The Crazy Frog hops to number one

The Crazy Frog
The Crazy Frog has beaten Coldplay and Oasis to the top of the singles chart with the Axel F version of a ringtone.

Coldplay had to settle for the number two position with their track Speed of Sound, while Oasis' Lyla fell to six.

Other new entries in the top 10 were Amerie at four with 1 Thing, Gwen Stefani at eight with Hollaback Girl and Audio Bullys at 10.

The Crazy Frog track started out as a ringtone, and has made it to the top after a heavy advertising campaign.

It's the first ringtone-inspired track to succeed in the singles chart.

The track is a new version of an old dance track called Axel F that hit number two in the singles chart 20 years ago.

In the album chart animated band Gorillaz secured the top spot, with Demon Days knocking Faithless' Greatest Hits collection from number one.
